Germany, von Berndt Odendall, 1654 in Koln. An important three tier gold coin scale complete with all the weights. The lid for the fractional weights compartment may be a replacement. The quality is exceptional for the box and weights. The text on the upper lid is still legible and matches perfectly with the Streeter Collection specimen as published by Kisch, 'Gewichte und Waagemacher im Alten Koln', fig. 32A. There are forty square brass weights in all. The two hasp locks work. The tooling on the box is neat and clear. Dim: 15 cm x 8.75 cm x 3.80 cm. Some weights may be replacements but all are contemporary. One of the finest Cologne scales ever made.
