Chinese Embroidered Red Silk Nine Dragon Summer Robe, 19th Century. Rare example of a boy's robe. With gold thread, nine five-clawed dragons, and flaming pearls on a red silk ground. The embroidered panel surrounding the neckline with dragons running across the top of waves. The bottom of the robe decorated in a pattern of waves, stylized mountains and diagonal bands of upright water (li shui). The sleeve extensions woven in a dark blue colored ground.
