Description
Salvador Dali (1904-1989). 'Les Amours jaunes', 1974. The complete set of ten drypoints, with additions in gold ink and glitter, printed by Bellini, Paris, on Japan paper, and published by Pierre Belfond, Paris; each signed and numbered 218/300 in pencil. Original red linen covered portfolio missing. Framed. Field 74.15. 298x216mm.
In 1974 Salvador Dali illustrated Les Amours jaunes, collection of poetry by Tristan Corbiere, French poet, close to Symbolism and a figure of the cursed poet. The golden marks that complete each engraving refer to the title of the book and contrast with the black ones, balancing the scene. Salvador Dali interprets here, hovering between dream and nightmare, between darkness and light, the sense of constant anguish that characterizes the life and style of the poet! Guided by the psychic automatism typical of Surrealism, Dali represents Les Amours jaunes as a sick feeling through an exaggerated and pathological eroticism.
