NEW JERSEY OFFERS AMERICA A CAPITOL Fine content official contemporary copy of a resolution of the New Jersey House of Assembly, [Trenton], June 18, 1783, presumably a copy sent to one of the other states, in which New Jersey offers a location for the new nation's capitol. In part: "…Resolved, that if the Hon'ble the Congress should think proper to make choice of any part of the State of New Jersey for the place of their permanent residence…[the state offers] a district of twenty square miles as may be required by Congress as necessary for the honor, dignity, convenience and safety of that august Body…[and will offer] the sum of thirty thousand pounds in Specie for the purpose of procuring lands and erecting buildings…[in] the Western part of the Township of Nottingham in the County of Burlington…" Some offsetting, else very good. $500-700
