D: 12.2cm, H: 18cm

This is a cylindrical jade brush pot intricately carved with a scene of "Gao Shi Visiting Friends." The upper part of the brush pot features carvings of immortal mountains, pine trees, bamboo groves, pavilions, towers, and other scenic elements, while the lower part showcases carvings of a small bridge, flowing water, ancient trees, unusual rocks, balustrades, and Gao Shi, a famous scholar from the Tang Dynasty, along with two children. The entire composition presents an ethereal landscape with distant mountains, nearby water, and rugged rocks, while the figures exhibit vivid expressions. The brush pot has three short and evenly spaced feet at the bottom, and it is unmarked. The carving on this brush pot is extremely intricate. The pavilions, towers, mountains, rocks, and trees are all layered and stacked with distinct levels. The carving is vigorous, powerful, and highly detailed, especially in the delicate depiction of ancient pine trees and small bridge foundations. The massive rocks are rendered with bold and precise strokes, creating a harmonious and well-proportioned landscape. The jade used for this brush pot is a variety found in Xinjiang's Hetian region. It exhibits a spinach-green color with a slight translucency and a waxy or greasy luster. Due to variations in mineral composition, the color and structure of this jade can differ. Light-colored specimens appear spinach-green, while darker ones take on a deep green or mottled appearance with large circular patterns. During the Qing Dynasty, the Imperial Household Department produced a significant amount of jade items, including various vessels, bowls, incense burners, censers, screens, animals, tripods, and seals. Among the scholar's items were brush pots, water containers, inkstone rests, seal boxes, and brush handles, all made from jade.
