Item Details
Description
Pencil drawing on carboard in the manner/style of Hans Ruedi Giger. The style that cultivated, according to the artist himself, was inspired by "biomechanics", that is, in living bodies with robotic grafts. Our definition of “In the manner/style of”: The auction house believes that the work is done in the manner or style of the named artist and possibly after their lifetime, but the actual authorship is unknown. Dimensions: 45 x 61 cm. Artist information: Hans Rudolf (Hansruedi) Giger, Switzerland, 1940–2014, also known as Hans Rudi Giger, was a Swiss graphic artist and sculptor. He is well known for his collaborations in the world of cinema. He studied architecture and industrial design at the School of Applied Arts. In 1966 he began working as an interior designer. From 1968 Giger dedicated himself exclusively to art and his first works were published around 1969, also participating in the artistic part of some short films, such as Swissmade - 2068 (directed by Fredi M. Murer, 1968) or Passagen (also by Murer, 1972). During that time he maintained a relationship with the artist Li Tobler, with whom he would record several shorts. The suicide of his partner in 1975 marked Giger's work forever. He married Mia Bonzanigo in 1979, separating from her a year and a half later. Hans Rudolf (Hansruedi) Giger was a contemporary artist known for his complex Surrealist works, which feature aliens and other motifs from science fiction. In addition to being a painter and sculptor, Giger is well-known for his design work on the 1979 feature film Alien, for which the artist received the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, as well as on the films Alien 3, Poltergeist II, and Species. The artist´s interest in designing environments has extended to the creation of two "Giger Bars,” in Tokyo, Japan, and his native city of Chur, Switzerland; both bars are decorated with the distinct science fiction-inspired aesthetic characterizing Giger´s artwork. In 1998, the HR Giger Museum opened in Switzerland. Provenance: Property of a private collection USA.
