Carl Schmidt pencil drawing, iris flower, 7 x 8”
Description
Pencil drawing on paper done by Rookwood artist Carl Schmidt and authenticated by his Grandson. The drawing is of Schmidt’s favorite flower, the iris. Many times in the latter part of April, Schmidt was heard to exclaim, “it’s time to paint flags” when the irises around Rookwood’s building were beginning to bloom. Flag is the local term for iris flowers. This drawing is unsigned but has an authentication on the back written by Schmidt’s Grandson, Jack Potts shortly before Jack passed away. It doesn’t take much imagination to recognize Schmidt’s style in the way the flower is presented. Sight size is approximately 7 by 8 inches. There is a tiny stray color spot or two visible.
