dial signed "Isidore Grenot Edidit", patinated bronze bust of George Washington on plinth inscribed "First in war, first in peace and first in the hearts of his countrymen", Roman chapter ring with gilt bronze surround above patinated relief panel inscribed below "Cornwallis resigning his sword to Washington", base mounted with patinated American eagle inscribed "E Pluribus Unum", back of works with cipher monogram and "31", small chips to dial at winding holes, some wear and losses to gilt surfaces, some accretion at edges of dial, light rust to hands, back cover for works missing, with pendulum and key, French silk thread movement, silk has deteriorated, French, early 19th century, 20 x 7-1/2 x 4-1/2"
