A BIT OF HISTORY OF HUDSON ROYSHER:
Born in Cleveland, OH on Nov. 21, 1911. Roysher studied at the Cleveland School of Art and Western Reserve University. He earned an M.B.A. degree at USC and then taught industrial design at USC (1939-42), Chouinard Art Institute (1945-50), and at UCLA. He was a contributor to Craft Horizon, American Artist, Design, and other national magazines. Roysher died in La Jolla, CA on June 23, 1998. Member: Cleveland AA; Calif. Art Club; American Society of Industrial Designers.
Roysher's silver represents simplicity in design. Wanting to get away from industrial mass production, he opted for a life of craft eventually going on to produce ecclesiastical and ceremonial commissions for churches throughout Southern California.
Hudson Roysher, art professor, designer and silversmith who created maces for universities and chalices and candelabra for major Southern California churches.
His commissioned pieces accent sanctuaries in several Southland churches, including All Saints Episcopal Church of Beverly Hills, St. Brigid's Roman Catholic Church of Los Angeles, St. Catherine's Military School Chapel in Anaheim, La Casa de Maria Retreat Chapel in Montecito and St. Paul's in the Desert Episcopal Church of Palm Springs.
