The later serpentine portor marble top resting on a kneeling giltwood carved Hercules, wrapped in the skin of the Nemean lion, and resting on a faux-marble plinth base

Lot Essay
This console table is related to a group of tables executed in Rome in the 17th and early 18th centuries which rely on highly sculptural giltwood figures as the base for a large marble top. Noted examples include a large side table in the Grand Salon at the Palazzo Colonna in Rome, featuring two enslaved men (see E. Colle, Il Mobile Barocco in Italia, Milan, 2000, pp. 114-115).
