Description
He participated brilliantly in the Russian, Saxon and French campaigns. He took an active part in the Spanish Expedition (1823). As Minister of War, he commanded the Algiers expedition, whose success earned him the title of Marshal of France (1830). He refused to swear an oath to Louis-Philippe, and was involved in the Duchesse de Berry's attempt to overthrow the VendŽe (1832). Sentenced to death in absentia, he went into exile and returned to France after the armistice of 1840.Letter signed, dated Paris le 14 FŽvrier 1828.
