Description

Trained at Saint Cyr. During the First World War, he served under Joffre. In 1931 he was appointed Chief of the Army General Staff and in 1938 Commander-in-Chief of the Land Forces. He considered the French army to be ill-prepared. From the Maginot line, he wanted to join the allied forces to create a continuous line, but this failed and he was replaced by Weygand.Signed printed photograph applied to cardboard in-16, dated Paris, 1946 to Paul Langer, notes signed at the verso.
