Item Details

Description

His parents were Swiss and he was a dual national. He studied mathematics and physics at Helsinki University. He attended the military academy in Paris and quickly rose through the ranks of the Finnish army to the rank of lieutenant-general. In 1940, he became commander of the II Corps. Mannerheim never recognized his military successes, and was not granted the rank of general.
