Each with arched padded back, armrests and seat close-nail upholstered with floral ivory silk, the top rail and seat rail carved with foliate motif centred by a floral spray, above scrolled arms on cabriole legs headed by floral sprays, terminating in carved toupie feet, with additional later floral seat-cover, the painting probably later, some replacements to the rails, stamped 'E. MEUNIER'
Each: 35 7/8 in. (91 cm.) high; 24 1/2 in. (62 cm.) wide; 19 3/4 in. (50 cm.) deep

The maîtrise date for Etienne Meunier is not recorded.
The first and most notable of a family of menuisiers, Etienne Meunier had his atelier on the rue de Cléry. He is particularly noted for his preference for pittoresque floral motifs: 'Il n'utilise sûre que les fleurettes parcimonieusement disposés pour la décoration de ses sièges, d'une ligne sévère, mais toujours harmonieuse' (J. Nicolay, L'art et la manière des maîtres ébénistes Français au XVIIIe siècle, Paris, 1956, pp. 313-314).
