TWO 18TH AND 19TH CENTURY CONTINENTAL SNUFF-BOXES

A GILT-METAL MOUNTED GLASS BOX, PROBABLY GERMANY, CIRCA 1780 AND A GOLD-MOUNTED LACQUER BOX WITH SPURIOUS MARKS OF JEAN DUCROLLAY, PARIS, 1750-1756

Details

The gilt-metal mounted glass box with two-colour and mother-of-pearl posé motifs of architectural landscapes and cities, on the small sides a gardener and a grape picker, with gilt-metal wavy moulded rims and rococo scrolling thumbpiece;
The small lacquer box, ingot-shaped in cagework chased with chevrons, the panels of lacquer decorated with stylised trelliwork centred by a quatrefoil, marked on flange and on cover rim, with later French control marks in use after 1838
3 3/8 in. (8,5 cm.) and 2 7/8 in. (7,3 cm.)
