Rectangular with moulded border, all sides enamelled in deep blue on geometric engine turned zigzag pattern within white reeding, marked in cover, base and flange

Lot Essay

Peter Delauney and Giles Loyer worked in partnership from 1789 until 1799 at 17 Crown Street in Soho (A. Grimwade, London Goldsmiths 1697-1837, London, 1976, p. 361) when Loyer is recorded at 21 Denmark Street in Soho, described as goldworker and engine-turner (J. Culme, The Directory of Gold & Silversmiths, Jewellers & Allied Traders 1838-1914, Woodbridge, 1987, Vol. 1, p. 87, footnote 3).
Christie's sold in New York, Property of a European Collector, 24 October 2002, lot 143 "A fine George III gold and blue enamel snuff-box with watch" by Delauney and Loyer dated 1793, the movement signed Joseph Silver.
