Octagonal, each engraved with a coat-of-arms within baroque cartouche of scrolls and a shell flanked by baskets of fruit, the cartouche with female mask terminal, with sliding base and octagonal slip-on domed covers, moulded borders, the bases with scratch weights Pr.12-9-0, fully marked on bodies, maker's mark and lion's head erased on bases and covers
4 1/2 in. (11.4 cm.) high

The arms are those of Ram impaling Shaw with mark of cadency for a second son, for Stephen Ram (1645-1746), an eminent banker of Lombard Street, London and his second wife Elizabeth (d.1760), daughter of Sir John Shaw 2nd Bt. (b.c.1660-1721) of Eltham, Kent, whom he married in 1714. Stephen was the second son of Sir Abel Ram Kt. of Ramsfort and Clonattin, co. Dublin.
