Arthur Settel (1912 - 1975), a PR officer of the U.S. High Commissioner for Germany.
Introduction by General Lucius D. Clay (1898 - 1978), Commander in Chief, U.S. Forces in Europe and military governor of the U.S. Zone, Germany, in 1947 - 1949. Clay orchestrated the Berlin Airlift (1948–1949) during the USSR blockade of West Berlin.
A publication intended to give a detailed picture of post-war Germany by 21 leading foreign correspondents, who represent such diverse news media as the United Press, the American Broadcasting Company, the London Observer, the Christian Science Monitor, the New York Times, the Saturday Evening Post, the Chicago Daily News, and the Wall Street Journal: Kobert Haeger, Lyford Moore, Richard Lowenthal, J. Emlyn Williams, Robert Lewison, John Anspacher, Russell Jones, Jack Raymond, Judy Barden, Ralph Harwood, Ernest Leiser, Denis Martin, David M. Nichol, Joseph E. Evans, Terence Prittie, Peter De Mendelssohn, Marguerite Higgins, Kathleen Mclaughlin, James O'donnell, Theodore H. White.
Their essays treat with varying competence of such current questions as the refugee problem, denazification, postwar morals, war guilt, education, the psychological implications of the Occupation, and current political trends. The editor chosen by the journalists is a public relations officer in the office of the United States High Commissioner for Germany.
