Hazel Tyrrell (1894-1967) - Canton, NY c.1950's - 8.25" long - Dubbed "The Pierrepont Birdwoman" Hazels carvings are highly regarded folk art. In the last 22 years of her life she spent dedicated to her carving and ornithology. It's noted that when a bird would die on a nearby property, she would collect the specimen as a study to better perfect her carvings. The Bluejay has bright and vibrant paint and carved feather details on the back. The wire legs are attached to squared qooden base. - - Condition: Original with light to moderate wear, including a blunted bill and moderate chipping to the tail and thighs.
