Description
These two hand-painted calabash husk shells are attributed to Haitian painter and priest (houngan) Andre Pierre. Each shell depicts water spirits conjured in voodoo rituals that are humanized as pirate-like figures decked out in 18th century French military costumes. Signed on each shell: A.P. Written on each shell: Simbi Rouangol.
Bowl with drums: 3.5in H x 9.75in L x 11.75in W. Bowl without drums: 4in H x 9.75in L x 12.75in W.
