A rare mid 19th century French carriage clock with cylinder escapementLaine a Paris, circa 1840-50The silvered face with 3.75-inch Roman chapters, minute track and spade hands over engraving "Laine a Paris", the eight-day two-train movement with outside countwheel-strike on a bell, the silvered rectangular dial with Roman numerals and inscribed Laine a Paris, in a brass multi-piece case with large bevelled roof glazing, the plain brass back with shuttered winding arbours for the trains and the hands respectively, opening via a single catch, beneath Slow/Fast slot, 5.5", (14cm) high excluding handle.See Britten's Old Clocks and Watches (9th Edition, 1982) where Laine, Paris is listed from c. 1790.An inferior example with lever platform escapement, one-piece case and soldered handle was sold at auction in September 2006.
