
Greek Apulian Red Figure Hydria
Description
Apulia, Magna Graecia, ca. 4th Century BCE. Bulbous vessel on raised disc foot with twin handles on shoulder and one behind on neck and with a wide flared rim. Decorated on main body with a standing draped female figure carrying a mirror and a dish, facing a nude male seated figure holding a ribboned tambour and thyrsus. A decorative palmette band around neck with a large leave behind as well and a wave band as a ground line for the figures. Size: 14¾in (37.5cm) high.
