1917 NEBRASKA CORNHUSKER YEARBOOK
Description
This is the 1917 YEARBOOK for the UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA. The outside of this yearbook has a black vinyl binding, but because of the thickness it is ratty at the seams. In gold it says 1917 CORNHUSKER and it has the University Seal on the front of this yearbook. This yearbook covers the Football season of 1916 and in 1916 there was a new Head Coach and the Head Coach was E.J. "Doc" Stewart and Stewart only coached two years. He came after one of the greatest Coaches in Nebraska Football History, Coach Ewald O. "Jumbo" Stiehm. In his first season Stewart won 6 games and lost two and won the Missouri Valley Conference title. But, the fact that Doc Stewart only coached two years, this is a special Yearbook. Great old pictures in this yearbook - and there are lots of them with Nebraska playing in the Old Nebraska Field. The socks the team wore in 1916 were scarlet and cream striped socks. . Nebraska went 6 and 2 in 1916. - which was way below Nebraska's standard at this time. Nebraska was an early powerhouse in football, winning their conference the great majority of the time. These early yearbooks are great to identify old equipment and uniforms. They really do contain a wealth of information and knowledge. Also, in time they will be more recognized as a great piece of sports memorabilia. They do not get their fair due at the present time - but in time - they will.
