Description
A very nice Roman marble bust of a goddess, c. 2nd Century AD, veiled, wearing ornate diadem, her hair styled back in thick waves with a long curl down the right side of her neck and down the front of her shoulder. Her beautiful features are serene, perhaps being a Roman copy of a Greek original. A wonderful display piece! H: 8 1/8" (20.6 cm). Intact, light encrustation and light cleaning marks. Mounted on an antique custom base. Ex property from the collection of Joseph Klein (1899-1987), New York City. Mr. Klein sought out and acquired these souvenirs as part of his vast collecting interests. Said to have collected in the manner of an 18th century connoisseur, his overall collection showcased his diverse array of artifacts acquired over a period of 45 years and included the art of ancient China, Egypt, Persia, Greece and Rome.
