Description
Civil War Era Surgeon's Field Amputation Kit. In a mahogany case measuring 15" x 4 ¾" x 2 ¾". Containing a tourniquet, amputation saw, and nine other instruments, all with checkered ebony handles. All the instruments are housed in a fitted velvet-lined case. A maker's label on the inside of the lid reads "Wm. H. Armstrong & Co. / Manufacturers /Surgical Instruments / Indianapolis, Ind". The brass lock is intact but the key is lacking. Brass escutcheon on lid with faint, illegible owner's name. The case has a small crack on the lid but otherwise the kit is complete and in excellent condition.
