George Mason's "Filled" Metal Document Box
Civil War Era or later, Metal Document Box, Filled with Financial Documents and early Stock Certificates, the Box is Very Fine, contents mostly Near Mint. This fully intact box was part of the George Mason, Civil War archive as offered in our last sale of October 11, 2003, but was not offered at that time. The box measures 12" wide x 5.5" high x 8" deep. It is painted a deep chocolate with golden trim, the name "GEORGE MASON" printed on a strip of paper adhered to the right side. Some 50 or more stock certificates and financial documents, dating from the third quarter of the 19th century, within the box primarily relate to the "Excelsior Iron Works" and Mortgage "Gold Bonds," amongst others ventures.
