Sex Pistols Steve Jones used and signed circa 1970/71 Gibson Les Paul Custom
One of the most iconic seventies guitars that changed the world of music with the punk revolution.
Serial No. 7237756, in off-white finish, with gold-plated metal parts, mahogany body with single cutaway, maple top, mahogany neck, twenty-two fret ebony fingerboard with block inlays, headstock face with split diamond inlay, replacement gold tuners, truss rod cover missing, two humbacking pickups, four black rotary controls, selector switch, metal bridge, stud tail piece, two stickers of female figures on the lower body; signed on the top left bout of the body in green felt pen Steve Jones and a black hardshell contour case with dark blue plush lining.
Syl Sylvain of The New York Dolls gave the guitar to Malcolm McLaren, the band's manager at the time, in lieu of a debt. McLaren then gave the guitar to Steve Jones, whose band Sex Pistols he also managed, around 1975. This guitar became the main guitar for Steve Jones on stage and in studio during his time with Sex Pistols and was used inter alia for the 1976/77 recording session for the album Never Mind the Bollocks and the single God Save the Queen as well as featured in the 1980 film Great Rock'n'Roll Swindle. The stickers on this guitar match exactly with the ones seen on various photographs of Jones with Sex Pistols. Jones sold the guitar in 1985.
Accompanied by a handwritten letter of authenticity from Steve Jones.
