Description
EXTREMELY RARE RICHMOND, VIRGINIA RETAILED COIN SILVER FRUIT BOWL WITH COVER, footed form with elaborate Rococo Revival repousse decoration consisting of C-scrolls, flowers and shells interspersed with groupings of fruit including strawberries, melons, pears and grapes. The cover is capped with a finely cast open-work finial featuring six strawberries falling from the central stem, and is secured to the top by a nut shaped like an American shield. Light gold wash to bowl interior. The foot underside stamped "MITCHELL & TYLER" for Samuel P. Mitchell and John H. Tyler Sr. (1845-1866) of Richmond and "STANDARD" and "*P.L.K.*" for Peter L. Krider (1845-1860) of Philadelphia. Not monogrammed. Total weight: 46 ozt. Circa 1845-1850. 11" HOA, 11" DOA.

By descent in the Dooley family of Richmond, Virginia; likely from John and Sarah Dooley to their son James H. Dooley, builder of Maymont Mansion overlooking the James River and Swannanoa Castle on Afton Mountain.
