An intricately designed 2-piece apricot velvet jacket and gown, worn by Judy Garland in her starring lead role as Lily Mars in the 1943 MGM musical Introducing Lily Mars. Worn in a pivotal scene of the film in which Lily (Judy Garland) loses her role as the star of the play when the original star returns to the production. Designed by Howard Shoulp, the jacket features and elaborate design of colored beads across the chest and fur trim at the collars. Originally acquired from the MGM Auction and in overall fine condition. This costume is from the prestigious collection of Debbie Reynolds and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by Debbie Reynolds and Darren Julien of Julien Entertainment. Proceeds from this sale go to benefit The Debbie Reynolds Hollywood Motion Picture Museum.
About The Film: The talented Judy Garland is Lily in the 1943 MGM picture "Presenting Lily Mars". The catchy musical was a story about a small-town girl that hounds producer John Thornway for a part in his new play, but he doesn't want anything to do with stage-struck amateurs. But when Lily follows him to New York, he gets to know her better and his opinion of her changes for the better. Then, when the leading lady of the play walks out, Lily gets her big break on Broadway.
