A true silver screen gem from one of the greatest performances in motion picture history, here is an original satin three-piece clowen suit worn by James Cagney during his performance in the 1942 classic "Yankee Doodle Dandy". One of Cagney's most diversified roles, this movie would mark the crowning achievement of Cagney's stellar career by earning him an Academy Award for his portrayal of George M. Cohan. The satin shirt includes a jacket with red a black vertical stripes against a beige background with matching pants and hat. The jacket features a studio label that reads, "Date: 12-19-41, Prod. 3871, James Cagney." The lot includes a movie still of Cagney wearing the costume. In superb condition. Originally acquired from the Sotheby's Collectors Carousel Auction, 1987. This costume is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by Debbie Reynolds and Darren Julien of Julien Entertainment.
