Lucille Bremer Costume from Ziegfeld Follies

Actress-dancer Lucille Bremer, partnered with Fred Astaire, wore this unusual costume in an unusual dance number in the lavish 1946 MGM musical ZIEGFELD FOLLIES. The lot includes four pieces. This hand-sewn costume has a fitted crepe, beige blouse with long, orange sleeves that zip at the wrist and large shoulder pads. The blouse snaps inside a sleeveless, long vest that flares at the waist, zips up the front and is slightly longer in the back. The vest has snaps on the collar area for attaching an additional collar. A pair of bright orange/red matching crepe pants is included. They are narrow at the waist and ankle with an attached strip of material that wraps twice around the ankle. Decorating the pants are randomly placed 3-dimensional flowers of a plastic-type material. A stylized headdress also comes with the lot. With the exception of the headdress, each costume piece has a cloth tag identifying it with a number and the name Lucille Bremer. An image showing the piece in use in the film also comes with the lot. This costume is from the collection of Debbie Reynolds and comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by Ms. Reynolds. Proceeds from this sale go to benefit The Hollywood Motion Picture Museum.
About The Film: "Ziegfeld Follies" was made in 1944, but not released until 1946 by MGM. The all-star comedy boasts an incredible roster with icons like Fred Astaire, Lucille Ball, William Powell, Jimmy Durnate, Ester Williams, Judy garland, Red Skelton, Gene Kelly and the list goes on. This musical film takes place in Heaven where Florenz Ziegfeld dreams up one last spectacular revue.
