Extremely Rare American Rococo Revival Laminated Rosewood Récamier, third quarter 19th century, of the body of work traditionally associated with J. and J. W. Meeks, New York, in the "Hawkins" pattern, so named for a suite of furniture in this pattern given by her father, to Sophia Meeks upon her marriage to Dexter Hawkins, the crest centered by a pair of large flowers and flanked by open scrollwork with foliage and clusters of grapes, joined to an open arm on one end, with a serpentine scalloped apron and cabriole legs, h. 42-1/4", w. 48", d. 30". While "Hawkins" pattern parlor furniture surfaces from time to time, "Hawkins" pattern récamiers are extremely rare. The only similar récamier illustrated in the literature is the one in the Henry Ford Museum, Greefield, Michigan, which originally belonged to Abraham and Mary Lincoln.
