1950's FEDERAL GLASS CO. 8 PC. HOMESTEAD SNACK SE Description: This is an 8 PIECE SNACK SET that was put out by the FEDERAL GLASS COMPANY in the late 1950's. This set is still in the original box and on the bos it says HOMESTEAD SNACK SET - ANOTHER PRODUCT OF THE FEDERAL GLASS CO. COLUMBUS 7, OHIO. FOUR PLATES - FOUR CUPS. The Federal Glass Company started in 1900 and was one of the major producers of Depression Glass in the 1930's and 1940's. By the time the 1950's came around, plastic had hit the market and glass and pottery companies started to feel the loss of revenue. Many companies started to go out of business in the late 1950's and there was a steady stream of closed glass and pottery companies through the 1960's and 1970's. The Federal Glass Company finally closed their doors in 1980. This is a snack set from the 1950's and this is evident because there is no zip code on the original box. But, the quality of glass is good, but the buying public turned their attention to plastic and materials. It is now the collectors who appreciate the quality of work that was evident in these older glass and pottery companies. This is a unique snack set, a concept that was popular in the 1950's and 1960's. As the lifestyle of American changed, the need for Snack Sets vanished. You rarely see items such as this being made today. In some picnic sets you see a similar concept. But snack glass sets are not being made today. Condition Report: This set is still in the original box and the items are in great shape.
