"Th. Jefferson asks the favor of Mr. E. Thornton's company to dinner and chess on Monday next, the 8th Inst., at half after three. Friday Nov. 5th, 1802. The favor of an answer is requested.", "Th. Jefferson" written in a fine formal hand, probably by Jefferson, the remainder of the text in slightly different style, though possibly also by Jefferson, thin watermarked paper, 4-3/4 x 6-3/4 in. Minor foxing, creases, 1/4 in. sealed tear at top edge, glue residue, minor things, slight edge roughness; professionally cleaned, deacidified and encapsulated in clear archival sleeve.
