Edgar Tolson, 1904-1984. Expulsion, signed and dated April 9, 1980, KY. Carved wooden sculptural masterpiece! Near mint condition. One apple stem has been re-strengthen. 16" x 7" x 14". Provenance: Fleischer Gallery. Est. $8,000-12,000. Ship: $250 (Price includes wooden crate)Tolson a Christian fundamentalist came to art late. Having worked as a coal miner, chair maker, farmer and Baptist preacher, he turned to painting and sculpture after suffering a stroke in1957. Before long, Tolson had been recognized as Kentucky's most famous woodcarver. Tolson remains an Appalachian legend today, as much for his religious fervor as for his skill with knife and paintbrush.
