"In 1919, at the urging of Franklin K. Mathiews, Librarian of the Boy Scouts of America, Book Week was introduced to focus attention on the need for quality children's books and the importance of childhood literacy" (http://www.cbcbooks.org/about/history.html). The poster for the first year, designed by Jessie Wilcox Smith, was reused through 1924, when the artist designed a second image. In 1925 Brubaker designed this image, which was also used in 1926. Brubaker also did work for the New York Central Lines. Brubaker was awarded the Art Directors Club gold medal for poster design for this image. Modern American Poster 33, Book Week p. 5.
