Condition/Details: Bound in brown cloth with gilt lettering, this scarce text is a history of ancient and modern Mexico, named for the ancient term for the area of Mexico occupied by the Aztecs. The work is inscribed by Tylor on the front free endpaper: "John Hawkshaw Esq. F.R.S./ With the author's compliments/ March 20th 1881." The text is also illustrated with hand-colored plates of native peoples, a folding map, and other illustrations. The work shows some light wear, scattered light foxing to the pages, and library markings.
