Condition/Details: This antique text is an early description of the island of Ceylon, now known as Sri Lanka. The text includes chapters on various areas of the nation, Ceylonese people, religion, military, animals, vegetables, the stable commodity of cinnamon, minerals, and more. The work is illustrated with four folding maps. The volume has been re-bound around the early twentieth century in maroon cloth with gilt lettering, and the boards are somewhat bowed. The binding is sturdy and the pages are generally clean with occasional foxing and library markings.
