Sullivan County, Tennessee redware jug, Cain pottery (also referred to as Great Road pottery). Lead glazed jug with extruded handle, sine wave and incised lines bordering around the upper bulbous midsection, ringed rim collar, beaded foot, unglazed bottom marked with an "X". Handle terminus marked with two thumb prints. Provenance - found in Sullivan County. Condition - wear to glaze throughout. Height - 8". 19th century. A similar jug form from a Sullivan County was in the 1996 "Made by East Tennessee Hands: Pottery" exhibit at the East Tennessee Historical Society, Carole Wahler, curator.
