Sullivan County, Tennessee redware jug, Cain pottery (also referred to as Great Road pottery). Lead glazed jug with pulled handle, sine wave and incised lines bordering around the upper bulbous midsection, ringed collar with smoothed rim, beaded foot, bottom with areas of pooled glazing. Single thumb print to handle terminus. Provenance - Barr family of Boozy Creek area of Sullivan County. Condition - minor glazing voids appear to be problem in the firing versus wear, otherwise excellent. Height 9 1/8". 19th century.
