Folk art carving of hawk on sphere. Carved bird with black painted eyes, beak, claw tips, and highlights of wings. Semicircular incised feathers on body with carved layering of feathers on wings, articulated feet resting on  sphere with base support. Underside of base with felt surface has writing which is almost completely illegible. 'Michigan' appears to be one of the words. Appears to be carved from a Northern variety of pine.  Condition - wings broken near base and re-glued, tips of wings with minor loss. 16" height, 19" wingspan. Late 19th or early 20th century.
