Large oil on board by Tennessee artist Robert Witherspoon (1921-1992), impressionistic natural scene with trees and stream at either dusk or dawn. Condition - excellent. 29 1/4" x 49 1/2", frame 38" x 57 1/2". 20th century. This painting hung over the mantel in the artist's home. Robert K. Witherspoon was born in Columbia, TN. He started in the monument business and eventually opened his own art studio in Nashville, Tennessee. In 1963, Witherspoon was featured in a one man exhibit at the Parthenon in Nashville. His work has recently been featured at the Pryor Art Gallery at Columbia State Community College, Columbia, TN.
