North Carolina pottery wall pocket, attributed to Ernest Auburn Hilton (1878-1948) of the Hilton family potteries. Ernest was the son of John Wesley Hilton and helped organize the Hilton Pottery Company near Hickory, NC with his brothers. He later moved near Marion, NC and made art pottery with his wife. Most of his wares were not marked before World War II. The wall pocket consists of a buff yellow glaze with impressed Y symbols around the rim, accentuated with cobalt glaze runs. Refer to figure 200, page 114 of North Carolina Pottery: The Collections of the Mint Museums, Barbara Stone Perry, Editor, 2004. The Mint owns over twenty pieces by Ernest Auburn Hilton. Condition - excellent. 7" length, 3" depth. Circa 1930-1940.
