Rare Cherokee wall basket, split oak with walnut dyed oak forming cross designs, curled walnut loop design extends length of basket edges, walnut dyed oak wraps rim. Excellent condition. 15" height with handle, 7 7/8" basket height x 11 1/2" width x 5" depth. Late 19th century. Refer to Weaving New Worlds: Southeastern Cherokee Women and Their Basketry, p. 246, for a Cherokee basket using the same curled split oak design.
