Rosewood lap desk descending from a physician, Dr. Potter. Exterior of rosewood with brass corner mounts and bracing brackets, centered brass emblem on top, interior with black leather writing surface, wells at the top of the desk. Hidden long dovetailed drawer in left side. Interior wood mahogany. Various papers from Dr. Potter include billing statements from the late 19th century including the amputation of a thumb, advertisements for syringes Dr. Potter patented as well as other vocation related papers and calling cards. Condition - old, minor veneer loss around hidden drawer, missing shield escutcheon on interior writing surface, wear to leather writing surface, overall expected wear for age. 20" width x 7" height x 10 3/4" depth. 19th century.
