Rare Southern face jug, probably Georgia or Alabama, alkaline glazed and Albany-type slip body with greenish-black drippings, porcelain teeth and white porcelain used for eyes, brown glazed eyeballs and applied eyebrows, incised mustache, incised sine waves around top to simulate hair, narrow nose and protruding chin, applied ears with inner applied material to simulate ear canal, pulled handle. Provenance - John Gordon collection, NY, NY. Condition - minor chips and restoration to ear tips, lower lip, lower right eyelid. 11" height. Late 19th or early 20th century.
