Carved shoes by North Carolina artist, Howard Mauldin (deceased 1988). The shoes appear to be carved by a hardwood of either mahogany or walnut. Stylized carving of creases in shoes and holes for laces. Mauldin was born in Mt. Airy, North Carolina and was the carver foreman at Drexel Furniture company. After retiring, he became the founder of the Knob Creek Furniture company. Retains original patina, mid 20th century. Dimensions - 8" length, 2 1/2" width at widest point of shoe.
