Photographic contact print of buffalo grazing on the plains in Montana by L.A. Huffman (Laton Alton Huffman 1854-1931). Signed in white ink on the bottom 'The Big Open North Montana 1880 c L.A. Huffman'. Condition – crease on right side of photographic print, otherwise very good condition. Examination under magnifying loop verifies actual ink signature, not a copy. Further, print under magnification does not show dot matrix of 20th century printing. 10" x 20" photographic print, 15 1/4" x 26 1/4" frame. L.A. Huffman became the photographer for Fort Keogh in Montana during the late 1870s. Later in life, Huffman was elected to the Montana House of Representatives and was an advocate for the conservation of wildlife.
