Condition/Details: This huge volume is a very scarce study of the history of the inhabitants of the British Isles based on the size and shape of skulls discovered in archaeological excavations. This edition includes both volumes bound together: the first volume contains the textual description and analysis of the skulls and ancient anthropology, and the second portion includes the plates with further description. These are beautiful full-page plate engravings of skulls, most with tissue guards. The book is bound in three-quarter leather with raised spine bands and gilt to the spine. The work is solidly bound and the text is clean, with some library markings. The book measures approximately 15" by 11.5".
