Autographs Check Signed by George Dewey
GEORGE DEWEY, American Naval Officer. Check Signed, “Geo. Dewey,” black ink, June 19, 1893, Washington, DC, 3” x 7.75, Choice Extremely Fine. Drawn on the Washington-based bank Riggs & Co., the check is partially printed and then filled in and signed by Dewey. Dewey, hero of the Spanish American War, is the only person in the history of the United States to attain the rank Admiral of the Navy, the senior-most rank in that branch of the service.
